FIGURATIVE VISUAL POETRY
Mayya uses traditional, digital, and graphic media for her contemporary artworks. She tells compelling stories through visual art, combining elements of the human and animal body, geometry, and fashion.
With unconventional compositions and colors, the paintings are representing mostly stylized figures and animals in an imaginative environment.
I’m not interested in whether something doesn’t exist or if it is a real object. Do you hate, disgust, feel happiness, or surprise when reading a poem? I let myself dream. Often, I must think of the clouds. Imagine how jumping and dancing from one cloud to another. Is it possible to do that? Probably not, but those feelings are quite real, aren’t they?
And then, I begin sketching or writing. I choose the figurative subject because I think of the story of the living thing. I like to paint people and animals not as they are but as they could be. There is a process of searching for the most perfect shapes, colors, and compositions that will represent the story either digitally, on the canvas, or on the paper. When people are looking at my artworks they are smiling, and they let themselves dream. Interested in the details, they enter the same exact place, where I am.
